Societas Europaea Herpetologica (SEH)

The Societas Europaea Herpetologica (SEH) is an international scientific society bringing together nearly 350 professional and non-professional herpetologists from across Europe and beyond. SEH provides a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the advancement of research and conservation of amphibians and reptiles.

SEH publishes two internationally recognised journals: Amphibia-Reptilia, a quarterly peer-reviewed journal, and Herpetology Notes, an open-access online journal. In addition, SEH organises international conferences at venues across Europe, usually every other year, offering members the opportunity to participate at reduced registration fees.

SEH is an international non-governmental member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and actively contributes to conservation efforts through science-based expertise. The society operates under its statutes and by-laws and is governed by an Executive Council elected by the membership at Ordinary General (Business) Meetings.

The activities of SEH are supported by three standing committees: the Conservation Committee, the Mapping Committee, and the Taxonomic Committee, each focusing on key aspects of herpetological research and conservation.

Each year, SEH awards the SEH Grant in Herpetology (up to EUR 5,000) to support projects dedicated to the conservation of amphibians and reptiles in Europe and the Mediterranean region, with a focus on individual species or habitats.
